The Sports Orthopaedics Research Foundation is committed to the study and development of excellence in modern clinical Orthopaedic and Sports Injury practice through the promotion of training, education, audit and research.

The Foundation is an organisation established in 2010 and supported by the Specialist Consultants in the London Sports Orthopaedics practice. The Foundation itself is independent, and its remit is to support research projects, clinical audit, medical/surgical training and the education of healthcare professionals.

The Foundation runs:

• Clinical placements for healthcare professionals with our Consultant Specialists
• Lectures on Orthopaedic and Sports Injury related topics
• Patient feedback and clinical outcomes audits
• Scientific research projects in the fields of reconstructive surgery and non-surgical therapies.

Current Ongoing Projects

• “Functional Outcomes after Ipsilateral Total Knee Arthroplasty in Patients with Congenital Absence of the Distal Tibia or Trans-tibial Amputation”. Mr D Atkinson, in conjuction with The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital, Stanmore.
• “Efficacy of intramedullary-applied cefuroxime in treatment of contaminated open tibial fractures.” Mr D Atkinson, in conjunction with The University of Belgrade, Serbia
• “Tendon allograft versus hamstrings autograft for primary anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a pilot biomechanical study”. Mr Ian McDermott, in conjuction with The Centre for Sports Medicine and Human Performance, Brunel University
• “Meniscal Allograft Transplantation: surgical and patient-reported outcomes at minimum 18-month follow-up”.  Mr Ian McDermott
