My 24 week update post Conformis right total knee replacement

Dear Ian,

I hope all is well with you and your practice.

As promised, my week 24 update email. I have attached some illustrative photos.

First, my physio., Adam Rawle, is ‘very pleased’ with my progress and called it ‘exceptional’. I had my final appointment with Adam yesterday and have left it that I will get in touch should I experience any adverse symptoms and need his counsel. He has been excellent, too.

My general health is good and energy levels are holding up. The strength-based exercise routine I have been following under Adam’s supervision, is still quite demanding and my body enjoys the day’s comparative rest in between. Weights can be added when it becomes relatively easy (e.g. 30 wall squats to 90 degrees against an exercise ball). I have, however, done a daily routine of leg flexion and strength exercises, which I plan to continue till they seem irrelevant.

Meanwhile, I have started attending pilates classes and am looking for the optimum local teacher who properly understands anatomy and kinesiology.

Kneeling has been achieved, feels different but not uncomfortable, as well as my goal of child’s pose. I can get both legs flat in a calf stretch against a door frame with the other leg flat on the floor. Standing quads stretch too. Apparently (says Adam) the change in my leg muscles and glutes is very good – I can now sit on the exercise bike without the padded pants of shame.

I am conscious that I need to build the left leg too. It is not actively giving me pain but I have to be careful not to jar it.

In closing, thanks once again for the superb surgery and advice throughout. I would be glad to write a testimonial somewhere that may be useful. If you need any further information from me, do let me know.

Best regards, C
