Susan’s custom-made knee replacement surgery

Well before the pandemic & the present NHS crises I was told I had “quite sever arthritis” in both knees. This had been coming on for nearly a decade with my mobility slowly declining. Living in an area where demand out strips the service & being told to return in a years time with no guarantee of joining the waiting list, I knew I had to find an alternative. Where to go or who would I have confidence in?

I can’t remember how I stumbled upon the London Sports Orthopaedic website, but I’m thankful I did. On the website I was able to read about bespoke knee replacements (think super vet!) I thought this was still in the experimental stages & not available for humans. It made sense & was logical. Instinctively I felt this was right for me. Who to choose for the surgery? All the surgeons were highly qualified & leaders in their field. However, for me one stood out. Mr Hill had served  in the RAMC & worked with veterans at Headly Court. With someone with that wealth of experience I felt more than confident to go ahead.

I made an appointment. I was told clearly all the pros & cons with no hard sell. The admin would give me costing details so I could then decide whether to go ahead. I saw X-rays of my knees for the first time.

My operation was to be at Parkside Frimley Park. Unfortunately the scheduled date was the day of the first lockdown. It was deferred to August. I was geared up to experience pain but there was none! My calf muscles were a bit stiff & at first the physio exercises were a bit uncomfortable but recovery was quick. It was so good to feel strength in left leg again.

Now, for the past two years my left leg has done most of the work but it was time to sort out the right knee. This time I went to Parkside Heatherwood Ascot, a new state-of-the-art hospital. Again no real pain.

For the first time in many years I am able to go walking on the nearby Downs. At first I was slow & found muscles I forgot I had, but I have now speeded up & have cut the time doing the same distance by half. Again although very slow I can make my still weak right leg climb up stairs properly. Today for the first time I managed to climb down a few stairs. Progress is slow but sure & encouraging. Little by little I see improvement. I’m getting back my life!

Through out both procedures I experienced excellent care & professionalism. The bespoke knee replacement I highly recommend. It is brilliant. I also, without hesitation recommend Mr Peter Hill.

I’m a very thankful client!
