What structures in your hand are working hardest when you play the violin?

Mark Phillips, our hand surgeon with a specialist interest in musicians’ hand and wrist problems, continues his series of illustrated talks on the functional anatomy of the hand and wrist when playing musical instruments.

This talk is focussed on which structures are working hardest when playing the violin. This video looks specifically at the left hand, which of course does very different things to the right hand on this asymmetric instrument. Even more specifically, Mark explains what the hand is doing when playing the very highest notes on the fingerboard.
